It's a 1986 Ford Bronco w/302 and automatic transmission. When I do a hard acceleration, it will just pause like it's thinking about what to do next. It will accelerate after that but will sort of like stutter before picking up speed and will not accelerate very fast.
Thanks for your reply. This might sound stupid, but I have looked hard for a fuel filter and can't find one. Maybe I am not looking hard enough or maybe I'm seeing it and don't recognize it.
Im going to assume that you have a carburated engine. Take off the air cleaner. You should be able to trace the fuel line up to where it attaches to the carb. That part will screw out from the carb, and the filter is located in there along with a spring. Of course if your fuel injected, its located on the inside of the frame underneath the drivers seat.
It is injected. Underneath the driver's seat? How unusual. That explians why I couldn't find it. I would never have thought to look there. I will give it a go. I may need your help later, though. Thanks.
Not right underneath the seat itself, along the inside of the frame LOCATED under the drivers seat area of the truck. If its been a while since its been changed, I would so it. Cheap to buy, easy to do. Theres alot of threads on the procedure.
Whew, I looked at where the filter is and it looks very difficult to access. There is a bracket that surrounds it and appears that it must be removed and then there are some unusual looking threads. I may be able to do it, but think I would rather let a professional do it. Thanks.
the early fuel injectors were prone to clog. I think they switched to a different injector after 91. What you describe sounds like clogged injectors to me. Unfortunately it is not a cheap fix. You may try getting them cleaned. Not the gas tank additive, but a cleaning where they hook the solvent to the fuel pressure test nipple.
Well, I took the Bronco in at the Ford dealer and he was trying to talk me into doing just that except that he said that there was not any guarantees since the cleaning solution could also dissolve the injector O-rings and then I would need some intake overhaul. I told him to forget about the cleaning for now.
BTW...these guys at the dealer are so as molasses.
