Ok I tried to get a new MPLS but the parts store had two listed (one $37 and the other $50) and I didn't have a part number.

I pulled the one off the truck and it has a number of F5TP-7F293-AA but the part number in the zip file is E5TZ-7A247-A. I'm guessing that one if the older part number and one is the updated version. But which one is which?

More info. I just checked the AutoZone website and they list one to cover part numbers; O.E.M. #88923339, F2232, F7TZ-7A247-AA, F7TZ-7F293-AA ($48.99)

And the other covered: O.E.M. #88923277, E9TZ-7A247-A, F2220, F5TZ-7A247-A ($36.99)

As you can see neither one has MY part number listed. More confusion. And yes I double (and triple) checked my part number it is F5TP-7F293-AA

Hmmm,

Guess I need to update the part #'s for the MLPS in the file. Hadn't cross-checked it since I replaced it.

The old MLPS I replaced on my van (with the old style connector) had the number: F0TP-7F293-AA

The new MLPS I installed on my van had the number: F5TP-7F293-AA.
The NAPA part number was NS6528.

From what I understand, part #'s beginning with E are circa 1980's while the #'s beginning with F are 1990's.

Watcher,

Have you checked the resistance readings of the old MLPS with it hooked up to the system? The reason I ask is, my readings for the MLPS and the FIPL were bad, whether it was the old sensors or the new sensors. When I spliced into the ground wire on the FIPL and attached the other end to the pass. side negative battery post, the old and new FIPL's and MLPS's showed good readings and symptoms cleared up.

I went ahead and replaced the MLPS as it was the old style connector and was fairly loose compared to the new one. I also went ahead and replaced the FIPL as I discovered some corrupt trans. tech. had sold the P.O. of my van a new FIPL, and had painted the old black one with grey paint to look like the updated one.

R.A.

I have the same trans. (E4od) This weekend it shifted out of overdrive at 65 mph and the right back into overdrive and the trans light started flashing for about 3 mile and then stopped. It drove fine except when I shut the overdrive off it shifted like it was in fault mode. But with the overdrive on it shifted fine and went right into overdrive in a normal shift pattern. I was 300 miles from home so I stopped and pulled the batteries to clear the codes and shifted fine the rest of the way home. Temp normally runs around 180 in the line and 160 in the pan and that never changed. Any idears where to start?

If it's a Diesel, I'd check the "FIPL" Fuel Injection Pump Lever sensor as they can most likely cause a code 65 that (if I remember right) is a torque converter lockup code and it can think you are going full throttle when you don't even think you moved the throttle.

You must pull the codes first off to see where to go next.

will 89E350 7.3idi,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

Last post in that thread was October 4, 2005.
Most of the posts date back to 2004.

There are still a couple of those guys around, but most of them are long gone.

We do have a couple guys here that are very good with the E4OD, they will be along shortly.

Sorry, it was a code 62 for the "torqueconverter failure" that was caused by a bad F.I.P.L.

Any shifing issue at all would cause me to swap out the F.I.P.L. before anything, even EEC testing, as it's the most likely cause.
