Anyone know why my electronic transfer case in my 1989 BII (5-speed) won't shift when it's cold? All I can hear for a while is what I think is the contron box clicking a -lot- down by the rear passenger seat. Also doesn't kick out right away after going back to 2 wheel drive.
i read that the automatic locking hubs on the wheels make a crackling sound when they are going bad and can cause the vehicle to not shift in to four wheel drive. also, my father told me that to get it out of four wheel drive, you can press the four wheel drive button, but to get it out of four wheel drive you should drive in reverse a little bit, or turn the vehicle off to make sure they fully release. good luck
Try backing up about 15 feet after taking it out of fourwheeldrive as you have to to unlock the front hubs, when you push the button on the dash (or roof cosole) you should hear a click from behind the drivers seat below the speaker its the control for the fourwheeldrive theres a reset button (mine never made a difference when pushed or not) but the constent "clicking" sounds like the hubs...not good but if the do go go out and buy the manual locking ones (replacment) there
100% better just you gota lock them yourself... Hope this helped out a bit
