After doing a ton of searching within all of the FAQ's, I have been unable to find a definite answer to a question I have about a friend's truck.
My buddy has a 98 F150 4x4 Reg Cab, with the 4.6 L. He has about 78000 miles on it. For a long time, the truck seems to want to die when under a hard acceleration. He has replaced the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, and even Cam Shaft Position Sensor. Not knowing what this may be, he installed a Fuel Pressure gage on it, and that did not show anything that would raise any red flags!
My question is. Even though this does not sound like symptoms of the IAC Valve Motor needing replaced, could that still be causing the truck to stall out? He has noticed the truck stalling more now that the weather is cooling off! Could their be something else going on that we have not thaught of?
If anyone has any ideas of what we may try, they are very welcome!
Hey good luck on your friends truck I still can't figure out what is wrong with mine and i have a 98 f-150 with 4.2l with 205,000 on it and I have replaced the fuel filter and pump the plugs and wires the maf the pcv valve the iat all 4 o2 sensors the break booster and have had the cats checked. I have a problem with mine that as soon as you go to accelerate it wants to die and it has a major loss of power. It wants to die at an idle also and sometimes will. If you find anything out please let me know and once again good luck.
Hey, thanks. That sounds like what Andie's truck is doing. When we find the problem, I'll post it for you!
Thanks!
Mark

My buddy and I have replaced the IAC Valve motor. When we backed her out of the garage, and took her down the street. It died again! So, the IAC was not the trick.
Does anyone else have anywhere we may be able to go next? The truck seems to be getting worse. He hooked a fuel pressure gage up to it, and their seems to be no problems. We also hooked a code scanner up to it, and their were no codes. Yet, it still dies on the highway, and while ideling!
Hey someone told me in my thread that it is the torque converter and also someone else told me to have the differental fluid changed I don't know what help that might be but man you are just going to nickel and dime yourselves to death buying parts remember I told you we have spent over $600 buying parts and I will tell you again what we have replaced that hasn't helped so maybe that might save you some money. Since may of this year before all this started we have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, and the break booster after we replaced the break booster about a month or two is when the problem started and then we replaced the plugs and wires again the tps, maf, iat,pcv valve all 4 o2 sensors had the cats checked and still no luck. There is one other part that we replaced but I do remember what is called but we got it from the dealer. I hope that I can save you some money by you not going and buying these parts. I am probably going to put it in the shop and pay out the wazoo but I have to have it running right and if I do get it fixed before you figure out the problem I will let you know what it is and the same for you to me please. Thank you
You said that you replaced your booster. then it started. If you have a Vac leak n that new booster or vac line. you might lose enough vac to kill the engine. Cheak the line thin plug it and drive it around and see if it dies. If it does die thats it. if it dies- o well - and it did not cost you anything hope it helps
Yeah see that is what I was thinking and I had asked on here before that if that could cause my problem also cause that is the last thing we replaced before it started running bad. How do I check to see if it has a leak in the booster or what not? If I ran sea foam would that work to see or what do I need to do?
To be truthful i am not shure. But if I had to guess I would try a vacuum tester. See if the booster holds vacuum. BUT again i am guessing and if there is some one out there with a better way PLEASE let us know. Also I would cheek ALL vacuum lines. There is several going into the intake that can kill an engine. I had a crack in a plastic line going in to the throtle body and they killed the engine. But it was not oviose. It was on the bottom of the plastic and I felt the air leek. Hope it helps.

to get your TPS sensor checked just go to dealership and they will hook their computer up to it and it will run a test on it. but i will ask my dad what it is...hw worked for Ford near 20 years and he knows much more then me
Ok I did the whole sea foam thing it did help with the shifting but not the power loss I did notice that the black smoke came out from under the hood and not the exhauast pipe is this normal? I also got a code today that my iac is now bad????
