As a whole, the throttle lag on the trucks is a normal operating condition, according to the Ford dealer hotline and our FSE. The 04 F150's went to an electric throttle instead of an adjustable cable like the older ones, and, unfortunately, there is no actual fix for the issue because of the lack of adjustment. All the PCM reprogram is meant to be used for is if the wrench light on the dash is on (Failsafe)
Busa, somehow I doubt what you are saying. My Lariat built June 2, 04 has instanst throttle response. I've also read that lots of guys are seeing better throttle response after the dealer reprograms the EMM. The problems with throttle response seem to stem from trucks built before May 15, 04.... Evidently Ford started with a new program after that...
People also need to remember, and I can't explain how it works, but the gas pedal does program itself to how you drive..

It's also eliminated when a tuner is used which proves it's software related. We have a G35 coupe with electronic throttle and it has no delay so it's not related to an electronic throttle being non-adjustable.
I drove an '05 5.4 yesterday, didn't notice any lag, they're nice trucks. Soon as I decide on what exactly I want, I'm gonna order it. Thanks for the input.
There is lag due to the way Ford has programmed the response from the sensor. I do know that there will be an inherent lag, no matter what happens due to its design, but there are products available to help the lag on the '04 trucks. My 04 had the lag, but its been virtually eliminated due to my Superchips tuner. Might be something to look into for those that have it.
I test drove an 04 XLT Reg Cab 8'bed 5.4L and almost got into an accident due to the throttle lag. I punched it and swerved and went no where but was still coasting to the car in front, than it kicked in and I was able to manover out of the way. I than started to kinda play with the throttle and the top 1/2 inch or so did not do anything. When my girlfrined got in the driver seat she squacked it around every turn as we drove it through the city. She would break for the turn and give it a little gas and when it hessitated she gave it more and by that time the power was to the wheels and the tires would spin a bit. I guess I am used to my '83 carbed 351 spinning them and kicking out the rear at any corner on demand. I like the truck and the power but the throttle lag has me thinking. In a way I am not worried because Ford can possible fix it through reprograming and if need be I might be able to find the 4 bills for a programer like superchips.
7283-F250 and Rancheroracer,
If it is possible, test drive more than one truck when you go to the dealer. When I bought my FX4 back in February, I test drove 3 trucks (exactly the same) and I noticed the throttle lag in 2 of them, so I got the one with no lag of course. You might as well be able to find one or more that have no lag. This way you can have a truck that responds quickly without having to spend extra money.
Good and bad things here. The one I test drove I am not buying. what I am looking for is gettign harder and harder to come by and so far I have located 3 (1 locally and 2 dealer located outside the state). I am still looking but I may end up waiting to see what the 05 rebates do and get an 05. I will do as you said tho and test drive a few more and as always test drive the one I plan on getting when it comes to that point. My delema now is get a color I can deal with for a good price, pay $1000 more for a color I like or pay $1000 more than that ($2000 over first) for an '05 where I could possible choose any color and maybe the new programing has a better throttle response.
I do also realize that every car is differant. I have seen the proof on the focus I also own. There are no timing marks on the cam gears so you can get a tune that limits at 105, 115, or somewhere in the middle (majority are 109). And of course the whole Monday or Friday build theory.
