For all of you guys that think you don't have throttle lag, try "blipping", real quick tap, of the throttle and see what happens! Nothing!
I agree with dgdee! I can punch the throttle and release it and the engine will only rise 100 RPM or so. Maybe some of the guys with a recent PCM reflash can try this to see if their's does this.....
I've had my truck in the shop 4 times due to the throttle lag. They even replaced the whole computer with no success. Yes, the whole computer. Re-programming has not worked. Now I'm going through the dispute board.
I have a '96 GMC 3/4 ton and an '04 F150. The old GMC, unfortunately, is much more responsive. I drive it a lot more than the ford.
i've got an 04 regular cab STX 4.6 with 3.55 gears, and an 04 XLT supercab 4.6 with 373 gears. Throttle lag is not a problem on either truck.
But i test drove a new screw cab lariat that either had throttle lag or ford did not program it agressively, or ? . Once the 5.4 engine kicked in, then speed picked up quickly but there was about a half second delay.
I also test drove a lariat supercab that seemed to have zero thottle lag.
It seems to me ford didnt fully factor in the extra weight of the screw cabs when calibrating throttle response characteristics. this is just my impression of the half dozen 2004's i test drove.
I bought the STX about 2 months ago but i got the XLT on tuesday of this week. Really pleased with both trucks.
Just some info, my '04 SCREW had the throttle lag and the dealer just reloaded the program and the delay is gone. Guess it was a software issue on the earlier model '04's.
Does the '05 5.4 have the throttle lag I've been reading about that you guys have used programmers to fix?
My '05 Lariat SuperCrew has no throttle lag....none. In fact, you wouldn't even know that it's a drive by wire system. When you hit the gas she goes....smoothly.
The pcm does learn driving habbits. So if you are not jabbing the throttle on take off on a regular basis you may have more of a lag than someone who does jab the pedal regularly. The new pcm reflash does make a big differance on some trucks. I had mine reprogramed and it made a big differance. mine was built in Aug. of 04. Under normal driving conditions you can't feel any lag. When I floor it as quick as I can from a dead start it SMOKES the tires with a split second of a delay. mine is a 04 super cab FX4 4X4 5.4 3.73 limited slip. I have a 2001 f250 5.4 when I jab that to the floor from a dead stop it has a split second of a engine hesatation that feels like more of a lag than my electric throttle f150.
