Can the EGR be cleaned? If so, how? Where is it? Is it right next to the engine with a wiring harness going to it? Sorry for all of questions, but i am n00b to this but i want to learn how to do it .
Is your engine spark knocking? If so, you may have a plugged egr valve, or a plugged EGR port. Cleaning the port on the upper intake may help you out. Also, another way to check for egr function is to put a hand-held vacuum pump on the egr valve vacuum port. Then, start the engine. Pull a vacuum on the egr valve. The engine should fall on it's face with no chance of running. If it keeps running, your EGR system is plugged, or the valve isn't working. You should also see the pintle move up and down with vacuum being applied/vented. Hope this helps you out at least a little.
You can see the EGR valve from Mr. Andy's truck in the first picture. It is the rusty looking object to the right of Andy's thumb, with the green vaccuum hose going to it.
It is possible to clean the pintle and passage area. Work the pintle up and down with your fingers or a vaccuum pump as you try to clean out the seat. Do NOT dunk the diaphragm can portion into a vat of solvent.
