engine swap from 2.8 to 2.9

Is the lower end on an 2.8 the same as a 2.9? I have a 2.8 with a fresh lower end but want to keep the EFI from the 2.9 is this possible

I think they are the same. It would make sense for Ford to keep the same block and simply upgrade the heads. The only problem I can think of is if the bolt pattern for the 2.9 isn't the same as the 2.8's. Again this seems to be more trouble then it's worth for ford to change the tap pattern in the 2.8 block. Hopefully somebody else will know more.

The 2.8L and 2.9L are different designs of the same family engine.

I do not know if the heads will even exchange, you could try putting the 2.9L intake manifold and top end on the 2.8L if it will line up with the intake ports on the head. The 2.8L has a pretty bad designed head though, so if you could drop the 2.9L heads on it would be even better.

Not sure though, never seen someone try it. Check the patterns on the head bolts and perhaps they will exchange, might screw with your compression ratio though.

Nothing is the same, the 2.8 had a gear driven cam and rotates a different direction than the chain driven 2.9 cam. the Heads are different as well.

Rear ends of 2.8 and 2.9 have same rear end patterns, same flightwheel patterns, but I saw different flightwheel and different centering bearings in crankshafts.

3.0 have different rear end and it is interchangable with 2.9 replacing bellhousing and starter only.

I thought that we were talking about heads, not bellhousings. Great pics though. So you're saying that the 2.9 and the 3.0 might be interchangeable. I think that the guy wants to switch out a 2.8 for a 2.9. Sounds like a total engine swap is needed to make it happen.

No, the 3.0L has NOTHING in common with the 2.8L, 2.9L, 4.0L, or 2.3L/2.5L. It's completely unique and has no commonalities with them in any way beyond basic maintenance stuff.

To use 3.0 you need to swap bellhousing with pump, ECU, many sensors and wiering harnesss.

1-2 days deal. 2.8, 2.9 and 2.3 are popular in Europe, but I dont know why, but I like 3.0...

3.0 is not problem free. It leaks ufter any overheating.... My leaks oil a bit.
