Steering damper

I got to thinking that Im having quite a bit of Road Wander and read some things on getting a steering damper. I have a 2 wheel drive F250 for pulling a large trailer on the highway. Was wondering if anyone knew of a Steering Damper for a 2 wheel drive or if they even make one for a 2 wheel drive. I found some 4 wheel drive dampers but no 2 wheel drive. Thanks.

Okay I just looked over my Alldata information and found out that my truck had an option of a steering damper that was factory. Im going to ford tomorrow to order all the pieces I need to install one on my truck.

Wink

I would not buy one at the Stealership. Go after market, like a fwd drive or performance shop. Very easy to install, they'll have instruction in the box, bolts right on.

I see that you have access to Alldata. Does that also mean you have an alignment rack handy? If so, try setting the toe in about 1/2 degree.

We did the toe in and out and didnt make much of a difference. My buddy has an older 2wd f350 that has a steering stabilizer on it and its much tighter than mine. I found a product by fabtech that is specifically built for the 2wd 1999-2004. Has a dual piston on it also. Its a little pricey but you only buy it once. I couldnt find any other manufacturer making a 2wd version for my year cause it was an option from Ford. But the Ford one is only a single piston design.

One question I had was does the steering stabilizer put allot of load on the PS pump?

I Can fully say now Fabtech SUCKS> I called them 2 times to ask them the question: Will the model I want to get fit my early 99 ford. Specifically told them it was an early model 99 Cause I knew they change the suspension latter on for the Super Duty. Both techs said yes it fits all early and late 99 model year Ford F250 Superduties with 2wd. Well I can now tell them it doesnt. Now im stuck with a steering damper setup that wont fit my truck. Im calling the A__holes on monday about this.

Hi,

You might just want to check out this thread:

I, myself as well as other Ford people share the wandering.

I am also thinking about a steering damper but from what I hear, it will not entirely solve the problem (if your problem is the same).

I just did a 1/2 turn on the steering box and it helped a little bit then tried a full turn and didnt change it more than 1/2 turn. I might have a dual steering damper for a 99 Late model through 2003 steering damper for sale if I cant get Fabtech to figure out a way to make it work. This is for a 2wd only. I will keep everyone posted if interested in it.
