Ordered my 2005 F-350 Lariat Black/Tan truck last week. After looking around on the lot I noticed there is no longer a Tan steering wheel with the Tan interior on the Lariat. Someone please tell me I am mistaken and the steering wheel for the lariat is tan like the interior.
Otherwise, I WILL plan on replacing the steering wheel and dash components to make it like the King Ranch. I like the Tan dash in that.
You're right, and the problem unfortunately runs deeper than just the wheel. In the tan lariat interior, you get black door armrest covers, black steering wheel, black steering column cover, black dash pad above radio, speedo, etc., and black plastic instead of a tan instrument cluster. I looked at a few today, and decided to go with a gray interior instead.

Any comments?

a black wheel is not all that bad a thing, i wish i had one. my tan wheel as well as most others that have one can atest to the fact that after a few years the tan wears off where you hold the wheel(the wheel is black under the tan) and it looks pretty bad. i ened up putting one of those after market lace on covers on to cover it up.
Just my $.02 but I always buy a leather cover for my new truck's wheel as soon as I get it. This way, you wear out the cover and when you go to sell the truck, remove the cover and you have a brand new wheel. Helps the trade-in value.
Dealer told me they went to the black wheel and doors because people were complaining about them getting stained by grease and dirt from services, or, from resting your arms on the doors while you drive. He said that they did that so the owners won't have to replace them when they put them up for re-sale. Can't vouch for the truth of this but it could be.....
I had the same problem with a 1997 F150, 2000 F150 and a 2002 F250. The wheel actually wore where I held it. A friend of mine bought the truck and he put one of those slip on covers on it. It felt like it was twice the size it should be.
I now own a 2004 F250 and I keep moving my hands around so I don't mess this one up.
Ford has a problem with the steering wheels and the leather seats and won't admit it.
