My son's 1984 Bronco II has problems with the steering when he makes a left turn. After he turns left and the steering wheel is coming back, it stops before fully revolving and he has to "force" it to finish turning back. He and his dad replaced the steering gear box, the radius arm bushings, and the setter link. His tie rod ends are also good. Does anyone have any other explanation for what may be causing this problem? Please let me know. Thanks, Beth
If the steering box is adjusted too tight it will cause poor returnability. Also the ball joints could be binding up causing the problem. You said all the steering joints are ok?
I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I have an '86 Broncho II, and mine did that to me about 3 months ago. My husband fixed the problem, but until he did, it drove me nuts!! Lift up the front end, and see if the tire will wobble in and out. If the upper or lower ball joints are bad, that will cause the whole problem. That's what my husband had to change on mine. It was obvious my ball joints were bad, because there was uneven wear on the outsides of both front tires, and my tires were canted in. Just be sure to try to do the work yourself. The shops around here wanted a fortune to do Broncho II's. They said they're too hard to work on. It's fixed now, though!! Good Luck, this requires a lot of time and effort. Angel
