Anybody know if the Escape and Tribute share the same transmission for 05 model? Mazda salesman says no, but he didn't seem to know much about the vehicle in the first place....
If you're talking about the V6 auto, same ole CD4E that's been used since the Mazda 626 in 1994. Tribute, Escape, Maverick and Mariner are the same vehicle just different skins and interiors.

That's what i thought, but the salesdork argued with me. I assume it's just as "trustworthy" for 2005 as it has been for the other models ;-) ?

I hope you say that with a bit of sarcasm. It seems to have a higher failure rate than most trannies and I've seen some posts elsewhere about 2005 models having failures too. Then again, my wife's Honda Accord seems to have higher tranny failure rate than what I expected. There are a lot of opinions among owners of how best to prevent failures. Very frequent tranny flushes, driving with overdrive off, etc, etc.
Personally, I think it has more to do with luck. I'm sure stress plays a role - 4WD/AWD, offroading, towing and constant in-town driving. Mine's fine at almost 76k miles knock on wood.
