2004 Tribute/Escape 6 CD Changer Problem
I know this is a Ford forum, but I thought I would ask about my 2004 Mazda Tribute since they seem to be very similar.
Today, my in dash 6 disc CD changer in my 10 month old Tribute has decided to eternally be stuck on "eject". Much to my dismay, I cannot get it to do anything else. I have read the manual and it was not overheating, had not been offroading (not being jarred), etc.
I live an hour from the closest Mazda/Ford place (which has a Mazda mechanic every 4th week). I wanted to know if others have experienced a similar issue with this cd system. I may have to consider replacing the one included in the beefed up audio package if this is a common issue.
Thanks!

I tried for about 30 minutes to get the CD player to do anything. The button most likely is not stuck. I originally attempted to switch discs internally and the disc changer started to click and not retrieve the disc. Thus, I pushed the eject button attempting to see if changing tasks would reorient the system. Sadly, the system is now stuck on eternal "eject" rather than eternal attempts at switching the disc. I turned off the SUV and restarted it, thinking that perhaps a reloading of the audio system would fix the issue. It did not.

If you don't mind something that doesn't look stock you could get an aftermarket stereo that will probably work and sound better and last longer. It would probably just be a single CD though. If you are into such things, a player that plays MP3s is nice too
Don't know if you found your fix for this, but I have a couple answers. I had an '02 Escape with the Mach Audio changer in it and now have the '05. On the first one I constantly had CD's get stuck when trying to eject them. The first real bad times, when I couldn't get the CD's out, I brought it into Ford. They took the stereo out - sent it for service and a couple of weeks later put it back. The problem never went away.
So here's what I did...
1. Never play any homemade CD's with the paper sticker on it. If you burn a CD, just write on it for the Escape.
2. If a CD does get stuck in there, keep something like a credit card, a hotel room card, etc. in the car. When the CD is caught ejecting, you can see it in the doorway. Just slide the card in above the CD, inside the slit of the player. It will release (99% of the time).
Hope that helps!

Sadly, today I just got the deck replaced. Its been over two months. I was originally told 7 days. It was backordered. That should at least indicate this may be a decent problem.
Interestingly enough, the six discs stuck in the deck were not removed. I was told Mazda central will have to receive the deck and then remove the discs. They will be sent back to the dealership, who will then send the discs to me. I figure I'll get my discs back sometime in February. It was unclear whether the dealership was unable to remove them, or if removal would further corrupt the system, or if the whole system has to be shipped back for Mazda inspection untouched.
So thus ends my story over my deck.
Splashtm: Is the 2005 deck any different than the 2004?
Cheers and thanks!
