I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS

I run a small general auto repair and 4x4 accessories shop from my house. I had a woman bring me her 2000 Chevy Cavalier she says it was making noise which it was. I asked her to open the hood and let me see if I could find where the noise was coming from. She stated how do you open the hood?? I proceeded to show her how to open the hood ok right away I knew something was up. I told her do not start the engine and let me check something really quick. there wasn't any oil in the engine and she had a gauge in it not an idiot light she figured since the gauge wasn't moving that ment everything was fine.
I asked her when was the last time you checked the oil???
she stated NEVER now here is the reason she never did " when I bought the car the SALESMAN told me the car DID NOT NEED ANY SERVICE UNTIL 100,000 MILES " she figured checking and changing the oil was part of service and did not need to be done until 100,000 miles and the SALESMAN ALSO TOLD HER THAT CHANGING AND CHECKING THE OIL WAS PART OF THE NO SERVICE TILL 100,000 MILES. I'm sure his boss would love to hear him tell that to a customer.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS

An old man walked into a garage to request service on his d---e aspen w a 318. Complaint: oil light comes on while driving goes off at idle (stop signs). Mechanic pulls the dipstick and it shows full. He checked a few things then pulls a valve cover. The sludge buildup on the inside of the cover looks like a sand casting of the top of the head (valve gear). Mechanic asks when last oil change was and the man says with pride an absolutly straight face "Had new oil when I bought it." He was the original owner. :-staun

Must have had Penzoil in it!

He, he, he. Bad, I know... but I couldn't resist!

For those that don't know, there was an ongoing thread in the Oil and Lube section about Penzoil, paraffin (sp?) and sludge.

Don't take what I said here as a conclusion of that thread... I'm just teasin'.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS

I've always thought that basic auto care should be a MANDATORY requirement to graduate high school. Considering the the cost of automobiles, it is a travesty that schools refuse to include teaching students about one of the most important tasks in American life. Some people buy homes, but for a lot of people, a car is the most important thing they will ever own.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS

In 1977 I was working at an Air-Cooled (That's plot material!) VW Pro-Shop.

They built a brand spankin' new 1600 Dual Port for a Lady from La Jolla that owned a screaming yellow super beatle.

She was very sincere about asking how to break in the new motor, and when to change oil and so forth...

After the weekend, the car came back behind a tow truck!

She insisted she had been very careful with it, and even added fresh Anti-Freeze to the car....

When asked where she thought the radiator cap was, she pointed to the Oil Filler Cap. That was when she finally realised what "AIR COOLED" meant.

~I neither confirm nor deny blonde hair involved in all of this...

I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS

I used to work at a shop when I was going to high school and here is some of the stuff I saw.

Several donut spares put on backwards.
1 regular spare put on backwards.
Hundreds of lug nuts put on backwards (some on backwards donut spares!)
Had some young girls come in with an explorer with a clunking noise. Their dad told them it might have been a U-joint. A co-worker test drove it and the left rear wheel fell off.

Saw 2 parts couriers from different companies get into an accident in the parking lot. (not relevant but still funny.)

Had an old lady come in to have the winter air taken out of her tires to have summer air put in.

And the best of all: Two lady's came in with a volkswagon rabbit or something. I don't remember what it came in for but one of them had dumped over 3 gallons of water and coolant mix into the engine instead of the radiator. It was comming out everywhere. The oil fill, the air cleaner box, anywhere it could creep out it was. It looked like a dirty thick sour cream or something. I think we spent over 2 hours trying to flush that crud out. Even still I don't think it would start after that.

"And the Darwin Award goes to....."
