How do you remove the stock stereo from a 1987 BII? All the other Ford vehicles i've installed in have needed keys to remove the stereo but this one does not?, so how much of the dash do i remove?
Your in luck. I just replaced my stereo. Mines an 85 but I don't think it changed that much. There's that plastic trim around the bottom of the dash that just pulls of(be gentle). I don't think i had to pull the trim below the glove box. You can use an offset pick to pull the headlight switch but I just turned the lights on and worked around the switch. You'll need a phillups screwdriver. Remove every screw thats under that trim. Now if your dash is like mine once you remove all the screws at the bottom, that huge cover for the radio, ac, gauges, ect. 4 more screws and then you can discconct all the wires and stuff. I hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes.
well, your info helped a lot, go the stereo out but the idiot who had the truck last, just cut the wires instead of buying a wiring harness and I don't know which wire is which, can any help? thanks
I can't help you there but I would go to a junk yard and see if you can cut the connector out of one. The oly other things I can think of is to chase wires or go to a dealership and ask if you can look at a manuel on your rig. Good Luck
chasing is not that hard I had the same problem
I sugest find the constant and the inginion wire with a multimeter or test light and then put new spearer wire in the stock crap sucks any ways need any more help
e-mail me I have a sweet thumpen BII
Squezzeda eq and apline deck in my dash of my 85
and I can get may dash of in seconds is eay to pull decks out of them
http://www.countyradio.com
they used to have stereo wiring info there. I don't believe they do anymore.
I believe I still have that paper around here somewhere.
Another thing to check... most radio decks use the same colors. So what you can do, is see what color on the deck connects to which color in the truck wiring, then match it up with your new deck.
Actually, they don't share the same color. Not on the older Fords anyway. Get a Haynes Manual, they have the color coding for the radio wires in the Back. I beleive around page 12-5 or so. Good luck.
Check out www.installdr.com That site has stereo installation instructions for most newer cars and trucks. I don't know if they will have your vehicle listed or not, but it's worth a shot.
I have a 1987 Bronco II, and i put a complete system in last year, and you will need more than just a screwdriver- plus if you check out your local, decent auto parts store, they have wiring harnesses for stereo hook-ups. If you have access to a fax machine, i can fax you my pages from my bronco book detailing all the wiring plus a schematic drawing i did of my system, from deck to amp to speakers to hidden wiring to booster, etc.. Let me know- I am in the process of building my rig up again- 10.50x30x15 tires, nerf bars, built 2.9L EFI, headers, and one great sounding CD system
