I have a 77 F150 stepside. It's been converted to 3/4ton, 8 lug and sitting on top of 11" blocks. My problem is the drag link(the rod that goes from the pitman arm down to the tie-rod). It has been chopped and welded back together with spacers which allows for the lift. The pitman arm is stock. I have a 4" drop-down pitman arm to put on it and I want to get a new drag link. I think that will almost return the steering geometry to the way it should be. Or at least close enough. Better than what it is anyway.
My dilema: I measured the distance from grease fitting to grease fitting on the current drag link and it is 44 1/4". The closest stock drag link I can find is 42". Would it be OK to use the 42" and just adjust the pitman arm on the rod coming out of the steering box? Wouldn't that reduce the amount of turn I would get in one direction? Or should I just keep looking for a longer drag link? Any suggestions?
Just get one made to fit by a machine shop, find some thick walled dom that can be taped for either link ends or heims (whatever your prefrence) and get it bent if need be, using the stock one as a model. I hope the 11" blocks aren't lift blocks in the front...
