Finally just finished the lift on my 78 F250 CS. Got the skyjacker 6" with the dropped pittman arm and the offset drag link . When it was all installed, the drag link was binding on the pitman arm, and with the drag link shortened as far as it would go, still couldn't center the steering. I ended up ordering a 3" steering arm block from someone else, and cut a half inch off of each end of skyjackers drag link. Retapped and reinstalled the rod ends. Now drag link is at the proper angle, and I have same amount of steering in both directions, but what a pain in the butt. Thought I was buying a proven, engineered system, not one I had to re-engineer. While I was at it, I also built new extended sway bar links, came out sweet.
Pretty much anything you buy for our series of trucks will need to be "re engineered". There are very few items that will be plug and play. Off the top of my head I cannot think of one thing that simply bolted up.
I have the same set up on my red 79 and I did not have to do any of that sort of modifications. Nice truck BTW.
Looks like your front wheel center caps solid and not open to access your lock in/outs? Also looks like you are missing a few lug nuts on that dvrs side front wheel.
Also what is still disconnected on you front axle and hanging down?
I have the same beef with the Skyjacker adjustable drop link. I had about 2" lift with the heavy duty spring packs (3 leaves) vs regular 78-79 front springs (2 pack). I was so pissed I just gave up with the Skyjacker drop link and it is still sitting in a box. I provided Skyjacker with measurements of the part they sent me and they said those were correct dimensions for fully shortened link (which was something like 3/4" longer than a stock drag link). I gave them a few choice words and they refused to take it back unless I paid for the shipping and a restocking fee I think, so I still have it in a box and may use it now that I am adding a set of helper springs.
I seriously think they screwed up majorly and are making the adjustable drop drag link WAY too long.
yes, 77&79F250 I snapped a quick pic before it was totally done. All the lug nuts are on it now. the sway bars were still hanging down in that pic because I hadn't finished the links. It doesn't have lockout hubs. np203 full-time 4x4 they called it, although ill probably put some on it oneday. It also has the dual steering stabilizer on it now. Ill try to get some more pics on here soon
Also had the front driveshaft lengthened. I put the six inch springs on the rear, but removed the factory blocks. I took the tapered block that was between the spring pack and the helper spring and used it to achieve the stance I wanted. I used some heavy wall tubing I had laying around to lengthen all four sway bar links.
I hear ya on getting pics as soon as it comes off the jacks, completed or not...lol Full time 4x4, not a lot of them around. NP-203 is a sling lubed chain drive xfer case, so use it at least one a month.
You will need a part time conversion kit for the NP-203 xfer case, along with the lock in/outs.
I also got the rear 6" leafs, but had to reuse the OEM rear block and the shims that came with the leaf springs. I did not have to lengthen the d/s.
