stud vs pedestal

what is everyones preference for mounts on sbf heads? I'm building a 351w (79) and its got pedestal mount rockers. I was going to install some 1.6 roller rockers and I read somewhere that pedestall rockers are not a good choice for high lift cams. This is a non adjustable setup. I think you might be able to buy a conversion kit to change it to stud mount. I've found one for big blocks but not sb. the one for bb is a no machine work kit. just looking for some opinions. Thanks, grumpy

They have lash caps, shims or different length pushrods to adjust these. I have a '79 bottom end in my '68 Sport Custom, I prefer to use the '72 heads on it that came from the 2-barrel motor it had before. I got the adjustable rocker kit & the truck likes it. '71 heads would have been better...

Its a 500 lift cam which is not real radical for a ford. I just got my heads back today from the shop. I bought a trick flow spring upgrade kit and had them install it while they were doing the valve job and they set them up for a 500 lift cam. I would still like a set of roller rockers for them though. they had to replace all the valves because they were too short for the upgrade kit. the old valves had valve lash caps on them and they wouldn't work for that setup. 110 bucks for a set of valves weren't bad if you ask me though.

Id say keeping it pedestal mount. Your looking at 3/8 vs 7/16 so there is only 1/16 difference and the cam doesn't have excess lift. Who knows? Good luck with whatever you decide.
