I looked at a 1988 Ford Bronco II 4x4 that i was interested in today and i took it for a spin, the owner said the engine is rebuilt but when I accelerate it was extremely sluggish, Ive never owned a Bronco II before and was wondering if someone could help me out here?
LAST EDITED ON 12-Aug-01 AT 09:44 PM (EST)[p]My best suggestion would be to watch what you're buying. We own an '86 and a '90, and neither of them have really sluggish acceleration. I mean, they're not super fast(they're only V6), but they're not super slow, either. I guess it depends on what exactly you consider sluggish. Oh! Why would someone have the engine rebuilt and then turn and sell it? Could mean something is still wrong with it, more than likely.
Thanx for your feedback but could the problem be that since the engine was jsut rebuilt it was still real tight and not warn in yet? too much friction perhaps? the dealer mentioned something about that. I hope its something o that effect because im having a very hard time finding any other Bronco II's in my area. anymore feedback would be appreciated, Thanks
One thing you might want to check is the timing. Make sure the distributor parts are still good. Does it have the right plugs and good wires? The problem my friend had with his 87 B2 was a nasty timing chain and gears. He replaced them all and never worried about it again...at least till he had to do it again. They seem to be kinda weak. Sounds like typical Ford quality ;-) If that timing is off, that would really hurt acceleration and power oh yeah and gas mileage. The exhaust, intake and Throtle body are clear right. What about fuel filters and fuel pumps. The B2 (1987) uses 2 pumps. My aforementioned friend ended up ripping them both out and replaced them with a model that could handle the load.
