They put 428s and 429's in front of them. In the day, there was a steel girdle you could buy that bolted on to stiffen the case. I've never seen those advertised since, so don't know if that is still a fix.
If you can't afford to build and beef the tranny, it would follow that you would not be able to build and beef an engine to the level that would require concern over the stoutness of the C6.....
Also, as per the previous, it depends on what you are doing, as the load and reverse torque input are important considerations along with the power input.
More details about motor and plans will yield better answers.
I was just wondering what they could handle stock without changing anything. Right now my c-6 is stock behind a 390 with bracket master II race cam, performer intake, 750cfm carb, hedman headers and mallory ignition. Need to know if this combo will kill it.
Thanx
I doubt the mildly built 390 will blow up your C6. Ford also put the C6 behind the 460's and diesels in F-series trucks up to the F-Superduty (450) untill about '95-'97. It will probably be fine unless you drive it like you're trying to destroy it.
im looking to put one behind my hotted up 460, and was told they are not much good for anything over 400hp. the case tends to twist at about 550hp. (so a tranny bloke told me)
Carroll Shelby's "Cobra to End All Cobra's," that he built for comedian Bill Cosby and for himself, had C6's behind a supercharged 428 that Ford dyno'd at over 800 HP...
The C6 is darn near bullet-proof as long as you don't let it overheat.
Get a big trans cooler and you should be all set. (Block it off in the winter...)
It also depends on how many miles the tranny has on it. You put a fresh engine in front of a tranny with 200,000 miles on it, its probably going to go out.
