Kinda sorta. So long as you keep moving a locker will take you amazing places, but once you come to a stop having those two extra driving wheels of a 4x4 really helps, especially if you're trying to go over a log or somrthing of teh sort. If it chucks teh front wheel inplace and buries BOTH of teh rear wheels, you're screwed.

I know from experience, i wanted to see how far i could get in 2x with a locker. If i was moving I was golden.

no truck from the factory is true 4 wheel drive! even ones with limited slip are only 3 wheel drive and that's before the clutch packs go!

you add a locker and you multiply the traction several times! you would be amzed.

Does a locker turn a two wheel drive into a 4x4?
No. No it does not. A locker turns a 1x4 into a 2x4. If you want a 4x4 get a a four wheel drive truck and put a locker in front and rear. Anything else is, at best, a 2x4.

Most newer 2wd trucks have IFS....so your only choice is to put the locker in the rear. When you put a locker into an axle, you remove the spider gears (the differentiating gears) and when one wheel looses traction the locker forces equal amounts of power to both wheels.
So, no...it doesnt turn a 2wd into a 4wd.

You might be thinking of locking hubs caleb. They go on the front wheels of an already 4wd truck to lock down the front tires to engage the 4wd. I had the 2 confused for a bit when I first got interested in trucks and such.

Same here. But I also found out if you front tires are buried, your rear will soon be buried too

Unfortuantely, the Heep Rubercon has the air lockers in its front and rear 44s and the Bummer has Eaton ELocker front and rear optional but I doubt the most yuppies know what and ELocker is and actually get them.

EDIT : Kinda funny how the "Eaton" is clickable and it has nothing to do with the wheels or traction control.

I would say that a 2x4 with a locker would be pretty impressive. My friend with the detroit-locked bronco hardly ever shifts in to 4wd, while the rest of us are in. Of course, I am not talking about the hardest of trails, just enough to make a normal 4x4 shift into 4wd. The funny thing about the rubicon is that they aren't that indestrucible. There is a guy here who just snapped an axle on a 2 week old rubicon because of the locker. Nothing is perfect. And being stupid doesn't help your cause ...

I think that is b/c the rubicon has dana 35 outers instead of 44s.
