Unfortuantely, the Heep Rubercon has the air lockers in its front and rear 44s and the Bummer has Eaton ELocker front and rear optional but I doubt the most yuppies know what and ELocker is and actually get them.
what i meant was Ford's line of trucks....not any SUV or heep! i couldn't care less about them except my white truck thinks they taste good
Does a locker turn a two wheel drive into a 4x4?
No. No it does not. A locker turns a 1x4 into a 2x4. If you want a 4x4 get a a four wheel drive truck and put a locker in front and rear. Anything else is, at best, a 2x4.
What are the benefits of a selectable locker versus the automatic type for rear axle
purposes?
Can the same traction be had from both?
yes.
an automatic locker locks solid [acts like a spool] when one tire slips. A selectable locker will be unlocked (ie an open differental) until you lock it.

There are no durability or driveability issues with automatic lockers?

Not too much in terms of durability issues. Lots of drivabliliy issues. Do a search on this forum and you'll find there are plenty of threads that go into detail about Detrois lockers and how they behave (or misbehave) on the street. I just posted a little info to the "Lockers/trailer" thread on this page.
Jeremy, that Jeep is right where it belongs . . . on a trailer!

Really, Ivan, you shouldn't dog Jeremy about the trailer. He's just being responsible and prepared. How else does he plan on getting that heep home after it falls apart on the trail? I commend you on your forethought Jeremy.
