Hey everyone, ok I got a big problem, i have a 1990 ford F250 with a 460 lots of milage but purrs, jsut recently it starts up when cold jsut fine but after it runs for 30-40 mins and you shut it off, and go to turn it back on the truck will go wump and turn over once and stop. Now if u sit and wait for 5-10 mins it will start. I replaced the starter and nope, so what could it be? Timing? Soleniod?Burnt Fuse? im up in arms about it? PLEASE HELP!
Check the positive and negative battery cables....when wires heat up they create more resistance. When a bad cable heats up...it creates a lot of resistance, enough to loose almost all the power. If you have not replaced them and they're original, than replace them...it's pretty easy.
Both cables go down between the engine and the fenderwell. The ground is bolted to the frame and bolted to the engine block, the positive wire goes down to the starter, another lead to the alternator.
After you check the terminals, load test the battery. A quick check is to start the engine with the headlights on, if the lights dim way down the battery is dead.
