I got my Bronco unbelievably stuck today. I'm not much of an off-roader, but there are some trails on my property that I like to enjoy (if there hasn't been much rain). So after I avoided any and all common sense, I got both trucks stuck (I went back and tried to use the dually to pull the Bronco out, but it didn't even get halfway) and now I have decided to put a winch on the Bronco.
So here's the question: How to mount the winch without buying a custom front bumper? I was thinking about cutting out a section of the bumper, building an inset steel box, and mounting the winch to that. Has anybody tried it? I really like the look of the stock bumper, but if I have to buy an aftermarket piece, what are inexpensive options?
Buy the way, I thought it would be entertaining to all that I discovered that some beach towels that were in the back of the Bronco made a pretty good traction aid. The only trick is to find them after you've used them!
We had a thread just a short while back discussing winch mounting options. What would probably be best if you want to keep the stock bumper is mount a receiver up front and then have a winch on a portable setup that will slide into your receiver. This way you can just pop it in when you need it and when you don't everything looks stock. This also allows you to mount it in the back and pull yourself that way if need be. Warn sells them on their site but you could build your own easily for far less money.
I agree with the reciever hitch idea, my dad did that on his 88 chevy and built a bracket for the winch and it works pretty good. To0 bad its a chevy truck and a ramsey winch. Oh well
had mine that way w/recever on both ends used a plug from a forklift to supply the juice just dont do like i did forgot to put the lock on the pin in the recever well someone got a real nice setup for free
