It cost me 800 bucks to get mine rebuilt in my 1990 BII. It should not cost 3500 but it could be as much as $1800 though. Just shop around. I would not go to a junk yard and buy a used tranny, I called several and the only one I found they wanted $900 for it installed and 700 uninstallled and it only cost me $800 to have it rebuilt.

Someone told me that there was something weird about the automatic tranny's for the 88'bll's and that all of the parts would have to be ordered from the dealership and cost me a bundle. When you had your tranny rebuilt did the $800 include the removal and getting it put back in?

Yes it did include reinstallation, it also came with a six month warranty. I t still is not just perfect but it works just fine. It has a delay going into reverse, a friend of mine at work has a 4x4 92 Ranger that has the same tranny that does the same thing after rebuild. He had his rebuilt at a different place for $1250 that is the differencew between two tranny shops, $450 more for the same job.
