Exclamation 6.0 diesel woes

I'm a full time farmer with horses, cattle, broiler houses. We team rope, race quarter horses and barrel race. I traded a 99 F350 7.3 dually with 80,000 miles for a new 2003 F250 6.0 last Fall. 95% of my mileage on these trucks comes from hauling a horse trailer or stock trailer. Had no problems with the 7.3, but the 6.0 has been a nightmare. I have attempted two different times to go to Louisiana to pick up horses and the truck couldn't make the trip. First time in the shop they found a leaky injector and a motor with oil mixed with diesel fuel. Turbo had to be replaced and an injector. This was with 18,000 miles on the truck. About 6 weeks later, I tried the trip again. This time the truck stayed at a dealership 120 miles from home for 3 days and I had to rent a vehicle from them to get back home. After working on the truck and replacing everything but the engine, they said they could not fix it, even with Ford engineers giving help. Their comment was " it works fine without the trailer" take it to you local dealer. I borrowed my son's Dodge to bring back the trailer and my wife drove the truck home. In my line of work if I can't use this truck for hauling, it is worthless to me.
Does anyone know anything about arbritration? Does anyone recommend a newer model 6.0 for pulling a trailer? I really like alot of the features on the Ford Super Duty but I've got to be able to depend on one to haul a trailer.

Hey Bubba,

Wel unfortunately there are "some" trucks are have problems. They are getting them resolved however. There are also folks who went through a buy back and got a new one. If you could post what happens with your truck when you tow would be great, also perhaps if you know what they have done to it. I personally tow about 12,000lbs when I need to tow. I have yet to have a problem other than my intercooler sleeve blew off. WOW that's LOUD!!! So again, let us know what's going on with your truck and we'll try and help. Also there have been know dealer issues, so if you could also post where you are from and what dealer you are using or used would be of help as well.

Best of Luck,
Corey

Likewise, welcome.

Does sound like you are being stuffed around a bit by your dealer, and maybe Ford.
How heavy is your trailer?
While towing it, are you still within GCM?
If you are, they have no reason to sau "it only happens while towing a trailer" i.e. they don't consider it their problem.
If you have an '03 they were known to have more problems than the later ones (although there are many people out there with 03's that are going fine).

The best solution for you may be to document all the times the vehicle has been to the dealership, and repairs that have been undertaken, and pursue the "lemon-law" buyback system.

As for later ones, the 04's don't seem to have many problems, and I haven't heard of any problems with 05's, but the 05 hasn't really been out long enough.

Welcome to FTE. As stated, more info. with your problems would allow us to better help. Do a search on DSB, that'll give you plenty of reading.

Curious question though, why'd you go from a 350 to a 250? If you have a ton of weight and pull that much, have you ever considered a 550/650?
