Can anyone give me the weight (lbs or kg) of the Ford 9", Ford 8.8", Ford 8", and 7.5" rear axles? It would be nice if they were all for the weight of a Ranger width axle with the same brakes.
I've looked on the other Ford sites, and either come up empty, or the info is questionable.
One of the big 4x4 magazines had an article that detailed the strength of these axles and how much each weighed --in the last 6 months or so . I can't remember which magazine had this article. You could go to each of the big 4x4 magazine's websites and check for this article. The weight of these axles would range from 60 pounds lighter or 60 pounds heavier. I wouldnt think that the weight--the sprung weight-- in a pickup would make that much difference.
Rangers have the 8.8,31 spine rear axle as an option for the last 6 years or so. I would think that one of these off of a Ranger would bolt right in .
You may want to check out Four Wheeler magazine. There is an article on axles in their December 03 issue. I saw an article recently as well. I think it was in Four Wheel and Off Road. Hope this helps.
