As you can see I'm new around these parts. I am a first time truck owner. I bought this truck new in 02'. I've got 87,700 on it now(Love the TRUCK!). I am wanting to make some upgrades to an already great truck (Air Intake system, Exhaust, Gauges, etc...). I spoke to a guy today and he told me that with the AFE Stage II system and Pro Guard Filter(Totaling $538.00 installed??) that I would not have to clean or change the filter for 25,000 miles even in excess dirt or sand. Right now with the stock air filter I change it every time I have the oil changed. Before I buy this thing I would reall like you guys opinion on this and other mods. Thank you.
First off, welcome to the site. You will find it extremly useful as I have.
If you are going to go with an aftermarket air intake system go with the Tymar. Most people here will agree with me. Contact Dale Isley at tymarperformance.com. He will set you up with one the intake and help you out with anything else you need.
the tymar is a good inexpensive filter system, but i perfer to have some heat shielding from the engine compartment. i have a airaid system with a pre-filter on it but i still have a very little concern of filtration performance. if i were to do it again i would get one of the AFE units with there top end(pro-guard) filter and a pre filter. that would stil be quite a bit less than $538.00 and you can install it yourself
