Greasy Air Filter?
07 Escape Hybrid, 64,000 miles. I just replaced the air filter for the fourth time. Inspecting the used filter I realized that most of the filter was covered in oily, greasy deposits. All of it on the inlet side (bottom of filter, top of filter is clean). What would cause oil to get into the air filter housing? I've noticed this on all of the filters I've changed out, but it was exceptionally bad this time. The PCV doesn't dump back into the intake system before the filter, does it?

No it doesn't ... at least not in 2005 and probably in most "new car" engine designs where the air filter is "far removed" from the intake as oppose to older carburated designs. The PCV intake is just in front of the throttle body cavity and perhaps the PVC is your culprit. It might be a really bad problem as significant "blow buy" (doubt) or just a problem with maybe oil level.... is your oil level "too full" which causes a lot of "froth" which may find its way back thru the pvc into the intake when you shut down.
I guess the question is do you notice much "oil burn" either thru smoke or measurement (dip stick). When was the last time you change the PVC????
