distributor vs. distributorless

Hi, I need a van for work and I've been looking at everything out there and have come to the conclusion that the Aerostar probably best suits my needs i.e. reliability, longevity, fuel mileage, value. The 3.0 seems to be the best choice along those guidelines and I've noticed that after 95 they came distributorless. I'm wondering which system is better or better for me. I'm familiar with distributor setup so that is old school to me but I wonder if the newer system is a better choice. Any input is much appreciated. I'm already grateful for all the info I've gained just from reading the forum.

Ford's EDIS is a very proven system, and should give you better reliability than a distributor system (no dist. cap or rotor). You also have 3 coils with the EDIS system (one for 2 cylinders), instead of just one, and the engine will
run some if one coil goes out. The 3.0L is a very reliable engine...

Welcome to FTE!

I think many of us are/were familar with the conventional distributer system and may have been a little wary in the beginning of the "newer" Distributer-less Ignition Systems (DIS/EDIS). But once you understand them little better and get to know their benefits (as well as their quirks) you quickly come to see how much of an upgrade they really are over the older rotating distributer ignitions. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question and thanks for the welcome too! Anybody else wanna chime in feel free. This info is steering me to a 95 or newer cargo van. Wish they had made them in an extended version but I've never seen one. Before I had made up my mind I saw one near LA, a 95 with only 98K on the odo. I made a half hearted bid on it and it went up going for less than 1,700.00, a pretty good deal I think. More where that came from though.
