hi gang , i have two superduties 2001/2002 and of course living in buffalo i snowplow.I looked at the new trucks and i think ford pooped the bed on this one. I had the old coil springs and plowed with them with air bags and after 2 or 3 years they lost thier tension. what do you guys think of the new springs.thanks in advance
I stopped at a Ford dealer the other day to have a look,,,now I have looked at the Dodge front ends with their coil springs,, I swear their springs are like 7/8 to 1" in diameter,,When I looked at the new SD, it looked like about 5/8 to 3/4 ,,,, How can it have more GVW with lighter springs,??
Now maybe it was not a snowplow prepped truck, but it was a 6.0L,,I am just not fond of the whole coil spring set-up, on a heavy-duty truck,, now you've got trailing arms,,bushings more stuff to wear out,, A few yrs ago I heard a Dodge go by,,suspension was ratteling and squeaking,,and Ford had this type set-up on the older F-150 4x4's, from prob, 73 to 79 ???
I wanna see one with a 9' Fisher plow on it, like I push with my 04' F-350, and see what it does then !
Fords been using coil springs on the 4x2 SD from day one, and they have been using them on all there 4x2 up to F350 sense Twin I Beams came out. The 2000 F350 CC SD I use for work wieghs in at 9K+ all the time and it anything the rear leaf springs have lost some of there ability not not the coils. If you are going to plow order that package and I'm sure it will have coils heavy enough to do the job.
When I was out west I came across a SD 4x4 on a truck transport, it was on the top row so I got a good look at the front end. it looked like a clean desigh that sould run for years plus coil will give a look better ride than leaf any day.
Not to get off on the subject of coils. But the new front axle on the superduties is way heavier then the older ones. Put an older SD next to a newer one and youll see what I mean.
