Question Confession: Stupid question #452...

OK, I got tons of great, precise help on a recent thread asking how to install my new shocks. Now, since I'm "computer-challenged", I can't find the thread, so I'd like to ask ONE more (stupid) question!

I received my order of ProComp ES3000's from 4Wheel Parts. Anxiously, I get under the truck and R&R the fronts first, figuring they'd be more difficult. I take the stock front shocks out and set them down on the respective sides of the front end... but I, in my excitement, forget to look at them and figure out which end goes up and which end needs to be on the bottom for the NEW shocks! I'm not normally this "dupid", as this is genuinely a case of too much work and poor sleep . And, on top of that, when I go to install the rear shocks, the new one's don't extend out far enough to line up with the bolts! (BTW, I called 4Wheel Parts the next day, and 2 days later I received new ES3000's. Maybe the first set of rears were mis-marked? Either way, their customer service department was awesome! They told me to hold onto the first set until we're sure the new set is correct, then THEY would make arrangements to pick up the bad set... pretty good of them, eh?)

So, with tail between my legs and a humble "gee I'm sorry to have to ask" look on my face, can anyone tell me: does the fat end of the shock (ie, the part in the cannister, not the part that extends out and gets the shock boot on it) go on top or on bottom??? Same question for rear shocks, too please! Also, there are two (2) "domed" washers for each shock absorber. I can see that one goes under the nut where the front shocks mount on top of the inner fender well from inside the engine compartment. Does the other "domed" washer go under the boot? Do I zip-tie at the cannister? or at both ends of the boot?

Not sure why I couldn't find my recent thread via my user CP, but the bottom line is: I couldn't. So, here I am again.... asking questions to make me look like an "idgit"....

Anyway, thanks again everyone...
Daryl

PS- anyone want the extra "steering stabilizer" ES2000 shock and black boot that came with the "pkg deal" from 4Wheel Parts??? -DS

Daryl .. the "fat" end .. goes at the top .. the smaller part that goes inside the "fat" part goes at the bottom .. I'm interested in that steering stabilizer ..

got it, thanks! Does it matter if the truck's 2WD or 4WD? Mine is a 2WD. Sent you a message re: stabilizer...

That does not matter .. that is the basic design for the shock ... think about it this way .. if it was the other way around, the "cup" of the fat end could collecdt dust and dirt, etc ... just a visual to figure out how to mount it ... on higher performance shocks the valving, etc needs to go a certain way ..
