Have welder, will travel. Just kidding, but it's cool your uncle will help you out with this.
If your imagination needs to be primed, go down to your local scrap yard. There's all kinds of material in all kinds of shapes and dimensions. There's likely to be a few step bumpers there also, measure your frame rails before you go.
My local recycle yard has always been happy to sell me some of this or that for a profit. Even at that, it's still pennies on the dollar to make something that you like, and will want to look at for the next decade.
Most of all, have fun! Mike

On my bumpers, I like buying square tubing (1/4 wall) big enough to fit over the frame, cutting the back side, sliding it over the frame rails, and then bolting it to the frame, top and bottom, with (2) 1/2" bolts on each frame flange. Then I cut off the ends at 45 degrees and weld 1/8 plates over the end.
If you hit a very solid object such as a 20 inch tree you will twist your frame, but, you can run over saplings about 2 inches thick and not stop and not worry about parking lot damage from Hondas.

there was some guy near me had a pretty heavy duty bumper. took steps from a loading dock or something that were diamond plated. welded them together longways and bolted them to the frame. then he took a drainage grate and welded it to that. i someone told me he caught a taurus with the side of the bumper and ripped it in half.

here in my area there is a place called Reunell Bumper that makes heavy duty bumpers for the farmers and country boys around here. they're expensive but last forever and are stronger then anything i've seen. i've never seen one bent. they are a one style with different options they kinda look like this from the side ] you'd know if you've seen one. very distinctive style.
