The fuel return lines are the hoses going between the injectors, right?
I paid 52.95 or something for each head-gasket.
edit: Not in the best of places? Does that mean it just brakes easily?
Apparently there is a bypass hole that can get covered by some aftermarket thermostats. There are a few guys that have ruined their engines with this type of t-stat. Many overheating problems are the result to these t-stats. Not worth the risk. I went to ford and got one for $25.00, but I have piece of mind.

i just replaced my thermostat with a non ford or ih part and now i have compression in my cooling system.is there any way to knbow if it is a head gasket or possibly cracked block or head?is a head gasket what it usually is?im trying to decide if i want to fix it or sell it .IM SICK OF WORKING ON IT!!!!!
Could be Headgasket. I had the same problem on the truck I just got. Had to do extensive head work and am now putting it back together. Count on a minimum of $300-400 for parts to do Headgaskets.
i changed one head "left" by myself. i didnt use no cherry picker.... but it will make a man out of you. i didnt have no tourque wrence either. 1-2-3 on the impact. 20,000 miles ago and still runnin strong. i wouldn't really suggest this, im just sayin when its all you got, thats the way you do it. and about the turbo, im not sure but i think someone said the pipes to it were some sort of quick connect... could be wrong, never worked on one. so i dont know.
The turbo's all nice and snug up in there behind the hood, so it looks hard to get to.
You dont really need the thermostat if you have an EGT pod do you? (except maybe to see that the fluid IS cool and that your radiator cores arent plugged)
Eldomike: Heads need to come out through doghouse opening, have to tie up- some pushrods and headbolts.
just replaced gaskets on 7.3 w/ats turbo, holy s--- what a pain! turbo and related stuff took as much time as the headgaskets,
No sealant will not seal up the headgasket but it could sell a crack in a head in the right place, but not a long term solution.
I used 93/94 IDI turbo Ford headgaskets, more money but we'll see how they last. You'll need an intake gasket, doesn't come with headgasket kit.
Good luck
