One of the modifications if I ever "built" a V10 would be to fabricate 4V heads for it.
The reason V10's aren't at the drag strips is that they are harder and more expensive to get power from.
The everyday user would prefer to buy a diesel, install a tuner, exhaust, intake, and possibly water/meth injection.
A fully tuned turbocharged V10 pulling 1000+hp would require the person to have considerable $$$, and be, or at least know, a very good engine builder.
I am not saying that a Diesel woundn't be my choice if I ever built a drag truck, I am just saying if I was willing to perservere, and spend quite a bit of money, a V10 would be faster, and not by a small margin either.
Yes, and well before Spartan got ahold of a 6.4 and started just tuning it!
What would it take to get a V-10 to 600HP and 1000 ft lbs??? He's pulling some serious numbers on a totally stock motor and drivetrain (other than tunes)

I'd have an idea about how to get 600hp and about 750-800 ft/lbs, I don't think it I'll make it in the 4800 hundred dollar budget, but I'll give it a shot
-Cams $700-$800
-Head cleanup/porting (DIY'er freebie)
-Head CR reduction $400-$700
-Dual 16"electric fans (at the srcap yard or a thrid gen camaro/trans am forum) $60
-Turbo intercooler$800-$1500
-Rough turbo tune/dyno time $1200
-Headers ebay, alittle on the small side, not the best but with some hours of clean up and some tricks will be up to the task. $200
-revamped feul system /pump/injectors/regulator $800-$1000
now to see if I'am in budget $5460, (figuring highest prices) ahh close ppfffttt, I'll make up the diffrence with cheaper maintence costs

Did you figure in labor to put all that stuff in there? Even though you might be mechanically inclined, the next person down the line may not be(I know I'm not even though I did try my hand at it for my fuel system).
i did not see that this thing was this old i was just looking for info but it is kool that u guys are still around, i baught a lot of stuff, and the my friend which owns a shop and does a lot of twin turboed mustangs is doing it for 1600, not including parts is someone really getting 600 out of a stock motor and how much boost can i do i was thinking 8.
8 or 9 I believe is where you want to max it out on. I'm not to familiar with gas engines and supercharging them, but I believe that is the limit that most would say.

"Did you figure in labor to put all that stuff in there?" all of it done by myself but the dyno and some tuning. I'd say it cost $3000-$5000 just in labor for some one else to do it.
"I know I'm not even though I did try my hand at it for my fuel system" How did that project go?
If it went well maybe an exhuast system would be the next step for pushing the envelope

After 6 hrs, it appeared to have went well. On the way back from NC getting my new turbo from Matt, it was brought to our attention(the girlfriend was with me on that trip) that someting was leaking. Turned out to be the old return line that I had forgot to crimp up and get rid of, so I had to fix that. Other then that it went alright, but I had lost quite a bit of fuel and it ended up costing me money(thankfully it was at the cheaper rate), but all is well now.
