what are some good modifications i can do to a 300 inline six when i rebuild it that will not kill the natural torque. i hear that port and polish on the head take away torque, so does putting anything over 2 and half inch exaust. I don't wanna do anything too radical but am just curious of a few easy things that will give me a few more ft/lbs of torque and a few more hp. i am more concerned about torque than hp. not so much about gaining torque, but not losing torque by trying to gain hp.
also i have read on this board before about a carb that is a two barrel carb but works more like a four barrel in the sense that has one primary and one secondary. how does this set-up work and who makes it, how do u put it on, what intake do you need? ( i am sick of the 1bbl carter that is as efficiant as taking cap fulls of gas and pouring it on the runners). and no i don't want a 4bbl.
p.s. please don't redirect me to any of the other posts about performance upgrades as i have read all of them.
You could get a 4bbl intake and get a 2bbl adapter and then run a small 2bbl carb. I read some ware that the 390 holley is a good choice but it might be a 4bbl. Not to sound like a smart a$$ but a 4bbl is realy a 2bbl before you gun the gas.
I would say getting a cam that's made for off idle tq would be best. Call crane cams for advice. All HP gains will have TQ gains as well it's the cam that desides where in the rpm range it will be. If you port the head and open up the exhaust, but pick a cam that will make good tq down low you will be happy and you will have some more HP to boot.
no, not quite what i am looking for carb wise, i'll keep the cam idea in mind, been contemplating it, already have decided not to do the head..... ok as far as the carb goes... I do not want a 4bbl, I DO NOT WANT A REGULAR TWO BARRELL, what i meant was a 2bbl that has a primary and secondary, so that it actuallly feeds properly
best way to do a 2bbl is to use a 350-500 2bbl.
Use a SINGLE PLANE Offy or Clifford intake and a 2bbl-4bbl carb adaptor.
Mount the carb so that it is parralel to the engine (even with a single plane), you will need to relocate the throttle cable a bit.
you can spend as much money as a 4bbl on a aftermarket holley 2bbl but you will get a lot more tuning options.
one cheap 2bbl that works well with the 300 is the stock non-feedback
Motorcraft 2bbl.
The only tricky part is fabricating new automatic kickdown linkage if you are running a juice transmission.
first of all i am interested in the motorcraft 2bbl, cheap, easy to find, etc. next thing, what intake can i run with that...
ok next question.... i heard about a carb that is basically a 1bbl with a secondary.... basically a 2bbl that works on the same concepts as a 4bbl... wondering what is to this, when i heard about this set-up it sounded like something that would be good for me and what i want.
but i do see where the motorcraft would be more cost efficient, and i could use the cheap spacer until i get the money for a good intake. i already got $420.00 for a motor rebuild kit (all parts made in usa) and $117.00 in a new clutch kit. i am a college student so i can't go too wild on this thing yet.

Sounds like you want a webber carb , you can buy them from www.cliffordperformance.com (you can get them cheaper from other places too sorry no links) . The Motorcraft 2150 2V woul prolly be a good carb too as Oscar Meier said, the 390 (cfm) holley is a 4 brl, it should bolt right up to a clifford intake and will give you good low end torque (better torque than the 350 or 500 holley) .
Here is a couple more good links for ya to click on
I believe a Holley 2305 is the carb your talking about. 350cfm with a progressive linkage. They dont make those anymore but you can still find them on e-bay occasionally. The H/W 5200 would be way too small for your truck.
