I have the standard AM radio in my truck. I want to pick up FM stations but want to keep the stock look so I really don't want to install a new AM/FM CD unit, etc. My friend told me that he had an old 60's car and put an "FM converter" in it. Basically a small electronic that you can insert "in line" and have it hidden in the glove compartment. Said that Radio Shack used to sell them a long time ago. I talked to Radio Shack and they looked at me like I needed to have my head examined. Has anyone ever heard of an FM converter and if so where to buy it?
i found two a while back in the junkyard. i have one in my 68 mustang. works pretty good. i put an AM/FM radio in my truck out about a 73 or 74...mounted right in there without any modification and looks stock...i think there's a picture of it in my gallery if you want to look.
another option for your radio is to buy a headliner with a slot for the radio to mount in.
you can leave the stock radio and still get the benefit of having a nice new radio.
Well, at least I know they used to exist. Thanks for the tips. I've toyed with the idea of a remote system especially if I choose to get a CD player. Headliner isn't an option because the previous owner installed a sunroof. I really like the stock look from Ideals truck. The easiest would still be a converter if I can find one. Boyd, if you end up getting rid of the one you pulled out of your truck let me know. Thanks again.
