Hey guys, i have a 94.5 PSD when i bought the truck it had orange antifreeze (?Dexcool?) well anyway i had to replace the front main seal on the crankshaft, so i had to drain the raddator and pull it from the truck..after the repair i put new orange (dexcool) back in,with out the coolant additive..Now my ? is what should i do, flush and put the correct coolant back in. What is the correct coolant for my year PSD (94.5). And last what is the correct amount of additive to put in the coolant system. thanks for ur time

Thats a good question. I have a 99 F350 PSD and I want to drain and flush the coolant system as I bought it used and am not sure when it was done last. What am I supposed to use for coolant in it and what is the additive that I have read about here?
I agree with kwikkordead, flush the dex cool out of there. It isnt even a good coolant to begin with. If you dont replace your coolant on a regular basis it will cavitate around the cylinders every power stroke and it eats away at the inside of the cylinder wall untill you get a leak! The coolant additive is just that an additive, it replaces certain ingredients in the coolant that dissappear over time, but it doesnt take the place of changing the coolant.

I've been using Fleetguard ES Compleat. Good stuff, meets Ford and Navistar specs, comes with the SCA mixed in. Designed to be a lifetime diesel coolant, although I still plan to change it out every 35k. You can get it at any Cummins dealer. You can also use Prestone Heavy Duty, Black bottle, not the yellow bottle, it also has SCA mixed in.
I've heard good things about Evans, but chose not to use it because one, my truck is still under warranty and it does not meet Ford Specs because it is a Propylene Glycol base. Two, if you have a leak, it is hard to find unless you carry the stuff with you. Three, you have to drill your radiator cap, I'm not into that kind of modification stuff. Your truck is older, so number one does not apply. The two and three is a matter of personal choice.
Whatever you do, get that Dexcool stuff out of there.
