Question Foam Sealant

In the process of repairing the rotted area where my driver’s door pillars meet the rocker panel, I’ve had to scrape away a bunch of flexible gray foam. It looks like it was some sort of filler that was squirted in and allowed to expand and fill the voids.
Before welding in the patches, I plan on soaking all, soon to be enclosed, surfaces with Ospho and giving it a good shot of Rustoleum.

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether it would be a bad idea to, after the welding in of patches, squirt in a bunch of the expanding foam sealant (i.e. “Great Stuff”) to fill the voids and reduce the possibility of moisture building up in this area? I plan to use the type of foam called, “Low expansion, Closed Cell” so it itself, will not tend to absorb moisture.

I originally thought so. I then read something from a guy that replaces a lot of rusty panels. He said not to do it.

Like you said......Great Stuff. Never used in a car or truck. But all over the house. Expands to a fault sometimes......cuttable, and sandable. Holds pretty well in my experiance.

I am thinking of using some of that in both my F150, and a trailer that needs the wiring harness protected.

IIRC: that stuff actually traps moisture in a car or truck. You could go to an autobody supply shop and get an automotive approved sealer, it repels moisture.
