Wow, it's a miracle

Just did the dreaded tune up on my 91 3 liter. I've read on the forum numerous times about people having to get to the plugs from the wheelwells and from inside. I was actually able to change all 6 plugs from the front under the hood with nothing more than a 3/8 drive ratchet and 5/8 spark plug socket in about an hour.

I might have to try it...I read about what you guys were going through, pulled off the interior engine cover looked around and took it to the mechanic. I thought changing the plugs on my 90 Vette was bad...at least I can see 7 of them.

All I pulled out were the air filter box and the oil filler tube. The drivers side plugs were all accessible with no problem. After removing the two things, I just put my arm between the tranny fill tube and the blower motor. I had to put my arm all the way in, then bend it down(right arm) and go under the blower motor with my left arm. My chin was resting on the blower motor the entire time for the passenger side.

Could you elaborate on a "bendy" extension? Is that an extension with a socket attached to it?
Also did you have to "bend" like mherrington?

I did it a week ago in my 94 3.0
I have a ratchet with a swivel head and a bend in the handle - it really helped when doing the back one on the drivers side.
For the back one on the passenger side I drilled a one inch hole from the inside of the van, stuck the spark plug socket & extension through and pulled the plug. That one will be the easiest for all future tune ups.
The front 4 came out through the wheel wells, simply jacked up the van - placed on jackstands & pulled off the front tires.
I also put on new wires at the same time, so ripping out the old ones I didn't have to be too careful. Good thing, some came out piece by piece.
It runs like new now, Autolite plugs really do the job. The old ones had about a .135 gap when removed, about right for 218,000 miles
My cap, rotor & coil were all leaking spark vigorously so they got replaced too.

the bendy extension is like a large spring with the ends for a ratchet and socket you can get them from most auto stores or sears. I don't even take the wheels of now to get at the plugs.
