Last week I was an assitant trainer for the Rangers an Special forces. The three of us who had no real idea what the hell we were doing were told to just go out into the sagebrush at Yakima Training Center and pop up say bang bang and run, hide and keep doing this. The training was small group movements and tactics. I got real tired of saying bang so i thought of paintball. I talked with and instructor and he replied with "Hell ya I'd let you shoot them". Now the trainies are walking around with thier empty weapons jogging/walking around lazily saying bang back and talking to each other. Can you imagine the look on the person who gets hit by the first of a large volume of paintballs???? We got the ok to do this the next time we are tasked out to help out with the training. Man i can't wait to hit one of these kids and invoke some feeling of urgency. My unit is over in Iraq right now and due to come back in May, I'm back home on rear detachment duty. Man o Man i can't wait till next month..
That sounds like a blast. Just when they think they've got it easy, and are getting cocky, you pummel them with paintballs, and they don't have a clue what happened.
I hope the guys know before-hand they'll be getting shot with paintballs so they can be wearing eye and ear protection! We don't want Rangers with only one eye...
But otherwise I think getting shot at with paintballs would be a great but small taste of what really being under fire would be like. I remember the first time I played I was behind a pallet that was getting hammered and I thought "Damn, those suckers hit hard!" They can really sting when you get hit.
That's exactly what I'm thinking. Them walking along with a lazy additude thinking that the op4 is out there with empty weapons when the squad leader take a groin shot and falls .... then someone realizes that they have ammo hit the dirt... light'em up op4!!!
My unit has been using paintballs for a few months to help with training. Being able to shoot somebody and tell for sure a fatal shot from a wound helps out with training emensly. The more realistic training can be the better for both sides.
I recently played paintball for the first time. I can tell you that being fired upon certainly ups the awareness factor, be it with paintballs or lead. I knew in my mind that paintballs wouldn't kill me, but I was for sure doing my best to keep behind cover and plan my next moves! I do have to agree with the eye protection. The chance of a stray ball hitting an eye is very high! Does take the element of surprise out of the equation, though!
If you can, use accurate guns and barrels (Autocockers are very accurate) to decrease the risk of hitting them in the face. Itll help with the realistic factor also.
when I did OPFOR we used to run down to the local fireworks shop and load up on roman candles, starbursts, and bottle rockets. We would launch well clear of their persons, but there was no subsitute for the panic that "zip" noise caused while flying over their foxhole when they were sleeping LOL>
Even if they were being lazy and not engaging, we thouroughly annoyed them by keeping them awake all night!

Great idea! I just saw a special were Seals were starting to use them, the instuctors seem to like it better then the Mils gear. I think its because it hurts when you get hit. Your not using miles gear? You know wear both sides use blanks and wearing a harness with a buzzer. They should have paintball guns to! LOL Your instructor a jerk if he doesn't tell the trainies to wear ear and eye protection. Do a test run on each other you'll see.
Just be careful of where you hit 'em. I went out with some guys in college, and a dude popped me in the face at about ten paces. I was too busy checking what was left of my vision to go over and bare-knuckle him. I ended up with a black eye and some skin missing from my nose.
Oh it'll be manditory to wear goggle. And we will not aim for face shots. Back of leg, hand, inner thigh, all the sofe fleshy parts not covered by thier "armor"..
Ok,this brings to mind a whole bunch of cool toys,paintball bazookas,paintball tanks,(I want one)B-52`s dropping paintball bombs,paintball guided missles,etc,,,,,,,
A friend of mine still had some time to do when he got back from Viet Nam, so he was stuck in a training company similar to the above, except he got to use a bb gun. He was supposed to shoot the trainees in the butt, or on the leg, but he liked to aim for their ears, 'cause it would sting more. (He was on old head-shot squirrel hunter.) His plan, if he ever got called on it, was to claim that he missed, plain and simple. Nobody ever complained.
