Hey Everyone,
My SON'S 95 BRONCO Just Failed his inspection due to a bad cat.
The mechanic wants $300 to replace.A universAL cat is $100 from my auto parts guys and he told me I can just pull the other one off and this one will bolt directly on.Is it just that easy.I would like to save the money and also have my son work on it aswell.
THANKS
ZAD
Buy the cat and do both you and your son a favor and take it to Meinike or some similar exhaust place. In my opinion, the small price to have them do the exhaust work is worth avoiding the hastle of working with 10 yr old frozen exhaust parts.
dont go to meinike they are spendy . get a hi flow cat it will replace the 2 you currently have stock. find a reputable shop and have them replace. shouldnt be to bad. might even think about getting the exhaust done from the Y pipe back it will improve performance and mpg which is always a good thing
You WILL have to change your y pipe BECAUSE left and right pipes go separately into front cat ,then an air injection pipe ,then next cat. new aftermarket cat has same materal in front section of cat as orig. front cat,air tube pipe, then same material in rear section as rear orig cat-compact design compared to Fords DON'T MESS WITH THIS design
PS correctly done and EPA correct(air tubes and all- and passes) $300 is cheap- even less labor- been at a Ford dealer service dept. since 1977 and run an in house custom muffler shop since 1980.Note that the orig. exhaust was welded one piece to where muffler assembly bolted on and thoses guys a the parts stores will tell you O YEA It Just Bolts Right ON!!!!!!! EASY TO SAY HARDER TO DO!!!!! Just think how you are going to remove that front cat
