I have a 1979 bronco with 400. It won't start with the cluster hooked up. When I take the cluster off, nothing happens. would it have to do with the IVR (in-dash voltage regulator)?
I do have spark and i do have fuel. I checked all the wiring for the ignition system and they all seem fine. the battery is reading ok too. could it be that im grounding out with the cluster. ive tried jumping the battery, and jumping the starter but nothing happens when the cluster is hooked up. when its disconnected everything works fine.
That's weird, it does sound like a short. Do you have a wiring diagram on your truck? That will come in real handy. Trace the wires that lead to the ignition and to the starter solenoid. By the way, do your gauges work? Lights, measuring inst.?
when you plug the cluster in , your not plugging it in backwards are you. that may cause this issue to. and is this the stock cluster or one from another bronco
ive looked through every single diagram and went through every single wire and they all check out just fine. the truck died a week ago, but before that it ran perfect with the same gauges in it.
