the top left gauge (oil pressure right?) in my truck (94 f350 4x4) was not working today. after i turned on the engine it never registered anything. it was back beyond the red on the L side. after i turned it off, it almost seemed to drift a little bit, but not much. what would cause this to not work?
thanks for any help
The Most Obvious Reason Would Be A Bad Sending Unit, Or That It Has Become Unplugged Or The Guage Is Bad, I Would Get A Volt Meter And Check To See If It Is Putting Out Any Signal For The Guage To Read That Should Tell You What You Need To Know And Is A Good Starting Point.
It could be the gauge itself, the wiring, or the sending unit. Or, you might have no oil pressure. I'd start with the wiring, then change the sending unit, and then look at the gauge.
i had similar problem with the water temp gauge i changed sending unit no luck so i pulled the gauge out and was going to replace it till i found out it was 165.00 so i put ll back together thinking i could run a nice set of manuals a lot cheaper but i didn't have to everything worked ok i'm thinking a bad connection on one of the pins wierd m
go to tech articles on the right side of this screen click on instrument cluster and dash control good article on cluster removal but make sure you check the easy stuff first/sending unit etc.
My oil gauge doesnt work either...It stays in the same spot all the time. It does move when you start the truck, but just to that same spot. Where is the sending unit?
oil sending unit is usually around the oil filter somewere it has a single wire just unplug the wire and see if the gauge registers at all and you'll know if thats the sending unit
