Middle seat stuck in "fold flat" position

Anybody know a trick? I folded down the larger (driver's side) middle seat to get a large payload in...now it won't pop back up...no matter how much lever pushing and seat-yanking I do.

It's a 2001 Limited.

I have the middle row buckets...
but just sounds like the lever is not releasing...
try working the lever as someone pushes DOWN and then pulls up...
may be a two person job until you get it fixed...

good luck...

Is it the backrest part? If it is, try moving the driver seat forward to get the pressure away from the seat part that is against it. I have had that problem and that is what I have found. Hope that helps. I just went out to to check and you do need to be pulling up on the bottom lever while you pull up on the seat.

Sometimes pushing down first helps.

i had the same problem. it took me about 10 min to figure out that i just needed to move the drivers seat forward. it was so tight that it seemed to be a latch mechanism problem as opposed to a "sticking" issue. good luck, hopefully that's all it is.

I once actually spent about 10 minutes pulling the wrong lever and cussing like a cowboy only to finally realize I had the wrong lever.

Mahanson,

This happened to me just last week. It was quite a while since I folded the middle seat down. It took at least 10 minutes for me to figure out that the flap that normally covers the back of the seat was still folded rearward and needed to be brought back to the back of the seat & secured under it's velcro holding flap. Also, make sure you're pulling the correct lever (the larger one I think) and as already stated by others, sometimes it helps to push down to release before pulling the seatback up.

This is just my opinion, with this and a dollar, you can get a cup of coffee in most places.

I've found many times that I have to move the driver's seat forward before I can move the middle seat --- but then I'm quite tall.

I just found this site because I was looking for the reason my center seat would not fold back up. Just saved me a trip to ford dealer.......move front seat up, rear seat folds up now. Man do I feel stupid...
thanks

And the answer is.....

It is the lever not disengaging the release mechanism... wiggle the handle sideways to get a hold of the release mechanism. We all lift straight up, but if you push and/or pull the handle sideways (towards the passanger side and back of the truck) then try lifting at the same time it will release.

Just remember this if your seat won't fold up.

1. Make sure you're using the correct lever.

2. Push the cushion that got flipped up (this is the part of the seat you sit on when folded up) forward even more. If need be, slide the front seat forward. By doing this you release a catch that allows the handle to release the seat back from its folded position.

3. The only reason why this wouldn't work would be because the seat back that is folded down is not down all the way. Push it down until it clicks and then try to pull the handle up again.

Does it sound like I just went through this again yesterday??
