it seems that when it rains, water is collecting in the little hole between the engine compartment and windsheild (where the windshield wiper arms are housed). when i drive and make a turn the water sloshes around and eventually drains out from somewhere under the passenger side dashboard on to the floor. has anyone had thid problem, or know where the drain hose for that little hole is?
I have this same exact problem with my 90 bronco II. I don't know about the water sitting in the cowl, but I do know I have water coming in through the firewall thats running down the seam by the parking brake. All it takes is a quick down pour for it to get the carpet wet. I haven't had time to fix this problem yet but I know I'm gonna have to pull the dash out and whatever it takes to get to the source of the problem. Hopefully its just some dried up caulk at a seam. It sounds like a lot of work but I don't believe in getting rid of a perfectly fine vehicle becuase of a little problem. Besides, I have had to fix worst.
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
I have the same problem when i buy the bent frame ranger im going to get for the 4.0 motor, tranny, doors, front end and dash im going to use the power washer and find it with the dash out i have a 85 but like the look of the 89-92 so im changin mine.
Sewerside, your heater core may be leaking as well or maybe not. I think mine is going bad because when I turn on the heater I can smell coolant. My floor is not getting wet on the passanger side but I figure I might as well throw in a new heater core while I'm in there.

I was just going through the message boards looking for something completely different when I came across your posting. My 86 is doing the exact same thing. After awhile of driving, it gets really hot under the floormat where the water is,too. It's been driving us crazy since we got the truck. We did replace our heater core and hoses, but it's still wet. Eventually, my husband will get to it, I guess. If we ever figure it out, I'll let you know. Angel
LAST EDITED ON 22-Sep-01 AT 12:55 PM (EST)[p]I've got the same thing going on if it rains or I wash the 87 BII I just picked up. I'm guessing that it's the drains at each end of the tray below the wipers? I don't see an easy access to them from the top so I'll get underneath and see if I can find them and get a snake up instead of down. Wonder if there is a one-way check at the bottom of the drain as in some others?
More information: I tore all that I could apart and there is no hose or drain coming down from the tray below the wipers...there is just a hole and water comes out and goes where it will downwards. The pictures in this link:
pretty well show what I discovered and ran into. I'll have to replace the plastic bags with the insulation and reseal the firewall issues. The long rubber pieces of insulation were probably glued to the inner side of the truck at one point but were both lose and hendering the draining of water. I still have to figure how to put them back in and affix them properly. I'm sure both the rubber pieces and the bags of insulation are required to keep heat and noise from the cabin area.
I hope this helps answer some of the previous questions.
There is an access panel cover just midway on the firewall. Take that off and reach as far as you can to take leaves and debris out of wiper crow. there is a small drain area that gets cloged, Mine was so bad that I had to remove the blower motor to get the debris out...
Bob_BII, looks like I have the same problem as you, after the rain, there is water in the passenger floorboard. It has lead to a little mildew. I haven't had time to find the problem. Has yours stop leaking? I need to get into mine and fix it.
I noticed this problem shortly after buying my '88 BII. Leaves and pine straw collected in the cowl and obstructed the drain. Water sloshed around and ended up on the passenger-side floor. I think it gets in thru the fresh air vent or the heater blower. I've found that the drain for the cowl is on the driver's side. I don't think there is a hose, but simply an opening in the corner that allows water to drain. On my model (5-speed) I can access the cowl by removing the panel on the firewall behind the clutch fluid reservoir. This is closer to the drain than the one midway (as described in reply 11). I reach in and clear the debris out, then check by running a garden hose to see that the drain is clear. If the drain is badly plugged, a piece of heavy wire or a coat hanger helps clear it out. Once or twice a year does the trick for me, but I park under a tree at home. Hope this helps.
I Finally got by Bronco II ripped apart and found my leak. There was a rust hole by the front of the back side window. It seems that water had been running down that for quite some time and was running through the inner structure down by the door post and behind the dash and so on and so forth. Well I have a nice little rust hole at the firewall seam by where the parking brake goes and the door post is severely rusted. I have some pics in my gallery of the post but am going to get my website up and going here pretty soon with my progress on fixing this problem.
