63 uni swb air force truck?
I was wondering if anyone has heard of the trucks the air force used in 63? I bought a 63 swb uni that had been setting for 20+ years. It is academy Blue that the paint code matches it had a flashing light ontop and it had a emblem on the pass. door on the inside, that the center is gone out of but ive had other people tell that is a air force emblem. I have looked at parts books and seen all the other emblems for interior but not this one. does anyone know who or where i could get some info on this? this truck was the cheapest one avalible no radio 1 sunvisor etc thanks for any help.

If you can post pictures I may be able to help. Having spent 20 years in Air Force vehicle maintenance. The first thing I would look for is a data plate somewhere on the passenger side of the cab interior. It would show the registration numbers and vehicle weight specs. There might still be rivet holes if it was removed. There would also might be an airfield traffic light guide somewhere on the dash. If it is the original paint, or at least the last AF paint job, there should be evidence on both doors where the official AF markings were removed. You might be able to trace the VIN to the original buyer. I am not familiar with any interior markings or emblems affixed to the doors. The light on top indicates it might have been used on the flight line. It is possible it was a vehicle owned and operated by a contractor on an AF Base or bought for a special project.

Most of the early to mid 60's trucks I remember seeing at Dow AFB in Maine when I was a kid were all swb step sides. They were the dark air force blue with argent silver rims and matching silver hub caps. I remember seeing rows of them lined up along the fence near my house. They also had a few big F-700 dump trucks (57-60 ) lined up with the dump bodies tilted in the dump position.

I've only known of stepsides to be in military service, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible.
I just looked at a retired Army truck at Slickstock...it had a data plate riveted to the firewall on the driver's side with all the government information on it. The underside of the hood was painted with the Army serial number, and the military green paint was visible under the hood.

In the west here we have these missle silos with a bomb attached you may have heard about. Large men with guns drive around guarding them. Pretty sure I have seen some AF Uni's in salvage yards around here from that era.
Banjopicker is on the right track here; not the VIN but the ordering DSO code will be the key to this. Post it and we can pull out our books for you.
