ya that was one of them deals were ya cant run posi's front or rear at the mud drag thing and i went ahead and did that hmm spun the wheels like one but take the cover of couldnt tell grey area i gess
I welded the front and rear diff's on my 75 150 and the only problems I've found is breaking front left axles. I ran with 38's 35's and then finally 31's. This was an off road only truck, and there is always mud where I wheel, but steering is not the reason I'm leaving my next project (74 bronco) open in front. I admit I mat it at the first sign of mud and put on a good show, but until I get rockwell 2 1/2 ton axles (working on it right now) then an open diff will save all the trail repairs.
Most of the time the u joint snapped and cleaned the ears off the axle when spinning hard then the front left catching traction. The right has never broke. Also, twice when the axle broke, the axle bound up the front end breaking ball joints too which kicked the front left tire, hub and all off the truck. If you are running smaller tires, bald tires, or 1 ton housings, then for an off road only truck I would say go for it of course! On the street? Ya gotta be a hard core wheeler to do it!
I had a 71 mustang 429 WELL built with 4.56 gears and a spool on the street and it was a handfull! The girlfriend at the time wouldn't even drive it on the street, but she raced it at the track a couple times.
