Mini spool

Hi, guys, does anyone have or run a mini spool in the front axle of ther 4X4?
I know its real hard on the axles and tires in the rear end especialy when on highway, But i have dana 60 mono beam front axle, its only ever used off road or in ice and snow, unlike the rear end, the front tires turn together which should eliminate the binding effect that a rear end has, so does anyone foresee any reason i couldnt run a mini spool in the front axle?? Thnx DW

My questions with this is can you get a mini spool for a 35spline 60? You can get a spool, but i'm wondering if you can get a mini spool.

If you have manual locking hubs, could you run a spool and just lock one of the hubs in case you needed to drive on pavement? Forgive the ignorance here...

That what most folks that run spools do. Some actually wheel with only 1 locked in (PS), then if needed, they just jump out and lock the DS in and jump right back in.
I also question your mini-spool-ness for a 35 spline 60. I know they do full spools, but I didn't know about mini's. If you're gonna go mini-spool, just lincoln-lock it til it breaks, then toss a full spool in there.

i welded my front and rear and i love it. back before i did my hydro assist i only locked one hub in so i could turn and then i would lock the other in when i got to the deep stuff. now i can turn easily with one finger even with both hubs locked.

Was it KO or Jopey who commented on the massive stress you're causing on the one axleshaft that is locked? I can't remember, I think he said that if you're gonna run with one hub locked then you should lock the drivers side? Reason being the shorter shaft, I think.

Maybe one of them can comment, can't remember which one it was.

This is why this is a poor method of going about it. But, it is safe money to lock the short side if your gonna do it.

Question:

Wouldn't it be better to lock in the long shaft than the short shaft? Steel has a certain give per inch before it breaks. The long shaft has more inches that takes the same amount of stress per inch to break, so shouldn't the longer shaft be able to take proportionally more stress than the short shaft based on their lengths?

Leverage. Given the diameters are the same, the longer the shaft the more tortional forces it sees, thus, locking in the short shaft is a safer bet.

Okay, thats a crappy and probably inaccurate description of what happens, but the point is, the short side sees less force
