dome light wont turn off

Just replaced drivers side door latch on my 99 explorer sport 3 days ago with no problems but now all of a sudden i noticed after i closed door the dome lights would stay on and i made sure all door were closed tightly so i unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and the dome lights came right back on. Anyone know what this could be or how to fix it?!

Have you confirmed that the switch for the dome lights is not in the "On" position versus the "Door" position? On your '99 Sport that is probably achieved through the instrumentation dimmer switch. If it is turned all the way past the maximum bright position it turns the dome lights on.

Is it just the dome light above the front and back row of seats or also the overhead console? Is the Door Ajar indicator on?

Where is the dome light switch located? Both front and back dome lights wont go off. I was working on taking dash apart but the only switch i see is the brightness switch to the left of steering coulum and that is set to off. And no the door adjar light is not on

The switch I am referring to is the one on the dimmer/brightness switch next to the headlight switch. There is not an "off" detent for the dimmer, so if you spun it until the click, thinking that is off, that is actually when the interior lights turn on.

Do any additional lights come one when you open a door, such as the lights above the rearview mirror?

That happened to my 99 F250 and I just took out the fuse, if im right its a 20 amp fuse. I dont like my lights to turn on when I get in so I ended up plugging up a CB radio there.

But to answer your question it my be the button that presses against your door when you shut it. I never checked mine because of the CB radio

No other lights come on besides the ones that normally come on when u open the door. I think it might have something to do with the new door latch i put on because it happened when i only opened drivers door and thats the side i replaced the door latch on. But for the dimmer switch thats the on ly switch on my dash that i can turn to the left and right and it is on the off position

Did removing the fuse just make it so the dome lights wouldnt come on or any interior lights?

there is a switch on the door latch that grounds out when the door closes. You probably pulled the plug off or got wire disconnected when you replace the door latch... Years ago the button was up front between the door hinges to turn the light on... now it is inside the door on the door latch mechanism.
